A good slider in MLB The Show 26 isn't about throwing something nasty every time. It's about making the hitter expect one thing, then giving them another. You'll notice that once you start mixing it with a fastball instead of leaning on it every pitch. For players building a roster with MLB 26 stubs, learning to use the arms they already have deserves just as much attention. Start with location. A slider near the lower edge gives you a different result from one left over the middle.

Check the pitch menu first

Before you worry about movement, look at your pitcher's available pitches and the button shown beside each one. If the slider is assigned to X on your PS5 controller, press X to select it. Don't treat that assignment as a rule for every pitcher. Your options depend on the repertoire in front of you. Move the target with the analog stick, then consider where the ball needs to finish. Low and away can tempt a swing, but a pitch that starts too far outside may be easy to ignore.

Get comfortable with your delivery

The next part depends on your pitching interface. With a meter-based setup, you're managing effort and release timing rather than simply selecting a spot and hoping. Follow the prompts for starting the motion, setting power, and completing the accuracy input. Trying to squeeze maximum effort out of every delivery can make the sequence harder to repeat. Give yourself a few practice pitches at a manageable effort level. Watch where misses land. If your sliders keep floating into the hitting zone, work on the release before chasing extra speed.

Make the hitter consider the fastball

A slider becomes more useful when the batter has another pitch to think about. Show a fastball for a strike, then try a slider that moves toward the lower corner. Don't repeat that sequence automatically. Some opponents wait for the breaking ball, especially with two strikes. If they keep taking pitches outside, bring the target closer to the edge or change your approach. Against a hitter like Mookie Betts, a pitcher such as Dylan Cease needs more than one good pitch. Location and unpredictability matter together.

Work with the count

You don't need every slider to produce a strikeout. Early in an at-bat, it can earn a called strike or awkward contact. With two strikes, you've got room to test whether the hitter will chase, provided the count allows it. Pay attention to their swings rather than repeating the same target. If you're considering cheap MLB 26 stubs while planning roster upgrades, keep pitching practice on the agenda too. A stronger rotation gives you options, but reading the batter and repeating your delivery are what help you use them.
